A Dog's Life

Okay hopefully this will be the last post about dogs for a while. Since July 14th I have been trying hard to find homes for many of my uncle's dogs. It is a long story but the short version is that he is a horribly irresponsible pet owner who refuses to spay/neuter his pets and then refuses to be responsible for finding suitable homes for all of his additions to the pet overpopulation problem.

I read a stat recently that every single man, woman, and child in the US would have to own 15 dogs and 45 cats in order to control the pet overpopulation problem, that something like 38% of the animals in shelters are purebred, and that a staggering percentage of animals in shelters (somewhere near 90%) either are euthanized in a shelteror spend their entire life in a non-euthanizing shelter, that is, they never leave the shelter. These are just sad and I don't understand why anyone would be so careless or how they could then jusify to themselves their actions.

Anyway, I fond homes for the following so far 5 four and a half month old puppies:

Yeserday, I was able to take Hershey and her brand new two day old pups (all eight of them) to a safehouse/foster situation, that's nine more dogs who will get excellent care and good homes.

One of the dogs was killed by someone who has been trespassing on my grandmother's property and choked it to death, this kind of cruelt makes me simultaneously angry and very, very sad.

So here's what I have left to place... I still need to find homes for two adult male Aussie Shepherd and Lab mixes each about 1 and a half years old and a 10-12 week old female black lab puppy (cute as a button).

If you know of anyone in VA or nearby interested in a dog please let me know, email me for pics or more information (unfortunately I don't have a pic of the lab puppy yet).

You know, I REALLY want a dog for Susan, and Va isn't too far to drive. If I can bring hubby around, I MIGHT be interested (note: hubby COMPLETELY against at this point).

Yeah the terrible thing is that unless everyone is in agreement it just doesn't work. I think getting a puppy for Susan would be a great idea, it will help to teach her patience, repsonsibility and compassion when she is a little older...

Not to be nosy but why is the hubby against the idea of a dog?
