Happy Halloween!

Less than an hour until it is oficial so,

Happy Halloween!

Daniel and I watched the 100 Scariest Horror Movie Moments or whatever on Bravo last night and I was shocked that The Birds (which I personally fnd more firghtening than Psycho) did not make the top ten, in fact, I don't think it was in the top fifty! They had lots of horror movies on there that I have seen, lots more I have meant to see, adn a few I had never heard of including a movie called Susperia, which looks amazing!

God day all told my Giants spanked the Redskins1!! Jeff finished second, granted that just makes him the first loser, but better the first loser than the fifteenth or the thrity fifth or something ridiculous like that!

That is thoroughly ridiculous. A good horror movie has you scared for years after you've seen it. I still get a bit of a shiver when I see a line of birds on a telephone wire.

Psycho wasn't frightening at all, except for the surprise of the shower scene. The Birds is probably the scariest movie ever made. It is one of the most perfect films - the lack of soundtrack, the sheer ordinariness of the birds themselves, and the constant shots of the lovebirds in the cage to continually increase the suspense. Plus you never really saw the attacks: you got some shadow, and you got to see one result, but it was somewhat hidden from the viewer.

That is how to do a horror movie. However, it is impossible to select a single moment from the film because anything good requires context. I find the shots of the lovebirds to be the scariest things, but taken out of context, it makes no sense. And that is what makes the film as a whole perfect. It is a single, cohesive drive to a terrible nonconclusion. There is nothing that can be isolated - no great lines, no perfect scenes. That's what we should respect in film, a lack of soundbites.

You know, I think The Birds is far more scary than Psycho. Granted, Psycho is a GREAT movie, but out and out terror The Birds is it. I mean, really, you think about that movie every time you see a large flock of birds gathered anywhere. Psycho did leave that lasting impression on people. I think The Birds is far more scary because it is plausable...
